The French‑Canadian artist, winner of the prize awarded by the Fundació Joan Miró and co-sponsored by CUPRA together with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, presents Changing States, a journey of exploration through the history of materials and trade
- The exhibition will run from 30 April to 13 September 2026 at the Fundació Joan Miró
- The brand continues to support the talent of new-generation artists and cultural creators
CUPRA and the Fundació Joan Miró present Changing States, Kapwani Kiwanga’s first exhibition in Spain and one of the latest expressions of the brand’s connection with emerging artistic talent. Open to the public from April 30, the exhibition brings to life the Joan Miró Prize, co‑sponsored by CUPRA together with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and awarded to the French‑Canadian artist, and brings together some of her most significant works alongside three newly produced pieces. Through the recognition of Kiwanga and the opening of this exhibition, CUPRA continues to foster culture and support a new generation of artists.
“At CUPRA, we believe in the power of emotions and in the need to go beyond the conventional, values we share with the Fundació Joan Miró. Kapwani Kiwanga’s work resonates naturally with our creative vision and with the raw strength of materials in their purest state, a constant source of inspiration for our designs. Supporting disruptive artists from diverse cultural backgrounds as they build their international careers is an authentic expression
of who we are as a brand.”
Jorge Diez, Head of Design at CUPRA
ART TAKES SHAPE
Anthropologist by training, Kapwani Kiwanga conceives her work as an experimental archive. The jury for the Joan Miró Prize, with Jorge Diez as a member, highlighted the power of her installations to encourage reflection and foster social criticism, drawing attention to power imbalances and seeking to challenge dominant narratives.
In Changing States, the artist embarks on a journey that explores some of the most prominent themes of her research: a reflection on the history of materials and commercial exchanges, and how those shaped the world over history. The exhibition, created through close dialogue between Kiwanga and Martina Millà, curator and Head of Exhibitions at the Fundació Joan Miró, adapts and flows through the spaces of the Fundació and will be on display from 30 April to 13 September 2026.
