Art Course Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum: How Fast Have We Evolved? by Sara Rubayo

Art historian and content creator Sara Rubayo, a member of the LabThyssen expert panel, leads a new course organized by the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in collaboration with CUPRA City Garage Madrid. Across two sessions, the course explores the evolution of how we perceive and consume images—from centuries of contemplative observation to an accelerated era that merges styles and compresses visual experience.

  • Session 1: Slow Time – From Symbol to the Everyday, held at CUPRA City Garage Madrid, examines how Renaissance and Baroque works were meant to be observed with patience, training the viewer’s eye to decode symbols and meanings deliberately.
  • Session 2: When the World Hits the Accelerator, hosted at the museum’s Mirador, delves into the profound changes between the 19th and 20th centuries, when industry, trains, photography, cinema, and modern life transformed not only society but also artistic creation—paving the way for today’s fast-paced visual culture.
